"it's my birthday." is the 2nd single of 2021 by Margot Polo, the solo-artist project of songwriter/producer, David Provenzano. On the heels of his last single, "Can You Hear Me?" released in September, Provenzano pushes himself once again to wear all hats in the creative, song-crafting process, only this time he receives a little divine help from a muse in his sleep: the song came to him in a dream--on his birthday.

"I woke up on the morning of my birthday from a dream in which I was around a campfire with all my close friends and family--including my great-grandma, who had passed away just some years ago--and we were all singing the chorus melody of this song. Entirely from this dream, I had almost the whole song: melodies, production, arrangement, entirely laid out for me in my head. True story."

The result is a fun and quirky, head-bobbing sing-along song with swung acoustic guitar, three-part harmonies, a slide-guitar lead and chopped up vocal samples, all set against a jangly, folksy-pop backdrop. It's reminiscent of artists like, Jr. Jr., Miniature Tigers, Phantom Planet, and Coast Modern.
